Our holiday is over. Our real life has to start now. The life we still need to build
Erica is there to pick us up from the airport in Seville. The first thing I do when I see her is show her my hand.
“Congratulations you two.” She laughs. “When will the wedding be?” She asks. I look at Ben. “I have no idea.” I say honestly. “We will have to think about that.” Ben says.
Erica drops us off at the house. The front door swings open and a black dog runs outside.
“THEO!” Ben shouts and kneels. The dog jumps up at him and licks his face. “Lynn, meet Theo.” Ben says. I kneel next to Ben and hug the little black dog.
“Welcome home.” A slightly familiar voice says and I look up. “You must be Lynn?” I look at the man who steps outside the house. “Yes I am. You must be David.” I assume. “Correct, now come here and give me a hug.” He says.
I laugh and hug David. “I now know where Ben gets his hugging skills from.” I say. Ben hugs his dad too. “Good to see you dad.” He says. “How was your flight?” Ben asks.
“Long, but good. I arrived early this morning.” David replies.
“Lets go inside and get something to drink.” I say. “I am thirsty after the trip.”
“Booze. Number 4.” Ben laughs. I kick his shin. “Shut up.” I say with a grin.
I pour us a drink and we go to the living room to talk about Barcelona and the plans for the new house.
Ben suddenly seems to remember what happened in Barcelona and grabs my hand to show the ring to David.
“Dad, look.” He says.
“Well, well, well. Such a beautiful ring.” David says. Ben smiles widely.
“She said yes.” He explains.
David’s eyes get bigger. “OH! Oh, wow. Well congratulations.” He says and pulls me back into a hug.
“Thank you.” I mumble. I’m hardly able to breath. “Too. Tight.” I pant.
“So, when will I become a grandfather?” David asks and I blush. “Well, we haven’t thought about that yet.” I reply.
“So you are not getting married because you are pregnant?” David asks and I shake my head frantically. “Not that I know of, no. And IF I am pregnant, I don’t know it yet.” I laugh.
“Too bad. I am looking forward to becoming a grandfather.” David teases me. “I never thought you would be the first to get married.” He says to Ben.
“Me neither dad.” Ben replies.
“Well cheers then.” David raises his glass and we clink our glasses. Ben looks deep into my eyes and I giggle.
“Not keeping secrets are you?” David asks. And I giggle even louder. “Not at all dad, I just made sure that I won’t have bad sex for 7 years.” Ben replies.
I am about to hide behind the couch. I can’t believe he said that in front of his father. With me in the room.
The look on David’s face is priceless but I wish the ground would open right now so I could jump in.
“Ben is still a virgin.” David assures me. “Yeah, I believe that.” I reply.
Ben snorts. “Yup, and the pope isn’t Catholic.” Ben replies. I giggle. “Well, in that case, I am a virgin too.” I smile.
I sit on the love seat and Theo is curled up in the little space next to me. “I think you made a new friend.” Ben says. “Apparently I did.” I laugh while stroking Theo behind his ears.
We chat for a while. It’s getting dark outside and David gets up from the couch. “I think it’s time for me to leave. Erica is holding dinner until I get there.” He says.
“You can stay for dinner here, if you like.” I tell David, but he refuses. “No, maybe tomorrow.” He says and leaves us behind, with just Theo and ourselves.
“Well, shall I make dinner?” I ask Ben. “Is there anything in the fridge?” Ben asks. We didn’t do any shopping when we came back from Barcelona and I open the fridge.
It’s stocked up with food. “I guess someone left us a present.” I laugh. Pointing at the food. “What are you going to make?” Ben asks.
I take a look and decide on a simple pasta. “Tomorrow I will make something really Spanish. I love to cook but I never did it much.” I say to Ben while having dinner together.
“I can cook too. Did you know that?” Ben asks. “Of course you can cook too. Is there anything you can’t do? I now know where Mechanical People comes from. You are secretly a robot.” I tease.
“How did you figure that out?” Ben asks and I start laughing.
“It’s obvious. You can sing. You can cook. You can dance. You can play a lot of instruments. AND you are good in bed. Yes, you must be a robot for sure.” I tease.
“Well, you can’t sing and you can’t play instruments. What does that make you then?” Ben asks.
“The Goddess of Sex.” I reply quickly.
“Touché” Ben replies laughing.
It feels so good just to be around Ben. Having fun and laughing a lot. It will change eventually but I don’t think I have to regret the decision I made by saying yes to Ben after all. I look at the ring again.
“You like it?” Ben asks. I look up at him. “Yes I still do.” I reply. “I can’t wait to tell Sara and Lea about it.
It would be great to show it to them but there is no way for me to go to Holland for a trip right now. Not with the grand opening of the daycare in three weeks.
And there is so much to do.
The permits are all okay now. But we still need to wait for certified furniture. And I need to hire someone. Apparently many people are interested in a bilingual daycare. More kids than I expected signed up.
I am really looking forward to opening the daycare and starting a new part of my life. 3 more weeks till I open my daycare and I still don’t have a name for it.
The house is called Ventura. Can I name the daycare the same? I don’t think so. But it has to be something that fits with Ventura.
Fortuna or Suerte might be an option. I have to think this through.
Ben wakes me up from my thoughts. “Don’t you think it’s time to think about when we want to get married?” He asks
“I haven’t thought it through yet.” I say honestly. “I am only thinking about the daycare right now. I’m sorry.”
“Not a problem, you got to have priorities. We can let it rest for a while.” Ben says.
“Unless you are in a hurry.” I reply. “Oh, I would love to introduce you as Mrs. Graupner to everyone. But I guess it can wait.” Ben pouts.
I laugh and get up from my chair. “Let’s do the dishes.” I say while piling the plates.
“We’ve got a dishwasher Lynn.” Ben stands up too and opens the dishwasher. “That’s very nice but I like to do the dishes.” I grin. I fill the sink and start cleaning the plates.
Ben wraps his arms around my waist. “Well miss I like it when you do the dishes.” Ben laughs. Softly biting my neck.
I push the brush in his face. “Back off horndog” I laugh. Ben splutters and removes the soap from his face. “What did you do that for?” He asks. I turn around and look at him.
He looks so cute with his big eyes, pouty lip and still some soap on his nose. I kiss his soft lips and place the brush back on the counter.
Ben grabs his chance. He grabs the brush and waves it at me. I am covered in white bubbles and water.
I lean back and grab a glass. I fill it up with soapy water and empty it in Bens’ face. “I will get you for that.” He laughs and tries to grab the glass from my hand. We struggle but he is stronger than me and pins me with my back to the counter. “Say you’re sorry.” Ben says. “Never.” I giggle.
Ben tickles my waist and I twitch. I drop the glass. “Okay. Okay. I give up.” I laugh. Ben stops tickling me and leans in for a kiss. “Good girl.” He mumbles against my mouth.
